In
general two types signal detection methods can be used: coherent and
non-coherent.
Coherent method takes advantage of channel knowledge
(channel estimation) whereas non-coherent exploits optimization metric
corresponding to the average channel statistics.
In
practice this means that coherent detection can use both amplitude and
phase information of the complex signal. Non-coherent can only use
amplitude information.
